It’s that time of year where people start setting themselves some new year’s resolutions and think about what they’d like to achieve throughout the year.
I’m not one to set myself some resolutions as I’d probably stick to them for a couple of weeks then they’d go out the window, but I do like to sit down and set myself some goals and think about what I’d like to achieve over the next 12 months.
There isn’t anything quite like a new year is there? It can give us a new sense of motivation, and it is a great time to think about what you want to achieve and the things you want to set your mind to.
To be completely honest, I wasn’t sure whether to write this sort of post or not, but as it is the start of a new decade, I couldn’t let that pass by without acknowledging it. I couldn’t start off the new year without sharing my plans and goals with my readers.
I feel like documenting them on my blog helps me to stay focused and makes me even more determined to achieve them in a way.

2019 was filled with so many incredible opportunities – from writing guest posts and articles, to doing radio interviews, being featured in newspapers and magazines and being on a couple of podcasts, I grabbed opportunities with both hands. I don’t know if 2020 will top it but only time will tell…
I never could have expected any of the things that happened last year, sometimes the best things are the most unexpected!
I stepped out of my comfort zone on a number of occasions throughout 2019, and I’m determined to do that even more in 2020.
I also had some wonderful memories, including meeting Shawn Mendes, seeing Lewis Capaldi live, attending one of Ed Sheeran’s homecoming shows, meals out with my friends and days out with my family.

My plan for the year ahead
I’m very much looking forward to seeing what 2020 will have in store in terms of my career, my personal life and my blog.
I’m determined to gain more skills this year at work that will help me in the future.
I’m also going to be looking ahead to my future and have a good think about where I think I want my life and career to go. I’ve been thinking a lot about my future recently so maybe I can start to look at that even more and plan things out.
I’m sure the year will be filled with exciting plans with my friends and family and I can’t wait to make memories throughout the year.

My 2020 goals
There are a few things that I’d like to achieve in 2020 and I’ve set myself some goals.
Do more work within the mainstream media: I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do several radio interviews, write a few pieces for various publications, be on a couple of podcasts, and contribute to articles on vision impairment in 2019 which I’m extremely grateful for. I really want to do more of that this year.
I’d like to help raise even more awareness of vision impairment and disability within the mainstream media in order to educate others.
Have more radio opportunities: I’ve really found a passion for radio and I always enjoy doing interviews. I’d really like to work within radio (I’d secretly love to be a presenter one day) …we all have those career dreams don’t we?
I’d like to get more opportunities within radio this year, whether it is doing interviews or learning more about the behind the scenes stuff, I’d love to broaden my horizons.
Work more with charities: working with charities to raise awareness of disability and vision impairment is something I’m extremely passionate about.
I became one of AccessAble’s Yorkshire Champions and got involved with their work and I’ve worked with the RNIB on a few of their campaigns and I hope I can continue to do more of that this year.
I really am in my element when talking about vision impairment, and I want to let my passion shine through.

Do more writing and build my portfolio: I’m really proud of all of the guest posts and articles that I’ve written outside of my blog but I want to build up my portfolio and do even more of this. Who knows what it might lead to?
Take up opportunities at work: last year, I was asked to do a talk at a conference alongside two other people, do a presentation at a training day and collaborate on a workshop, all of these are things that I thoroughly enjoyed.
If I’m asked to do things like this in 2020 then I’m going to say yes and grab any opportunity where I can.
Read more: I love reading but sometimes life gets in the way and I don’t have time to read as much as I’d like to.
So, I want to take more time for myself and read, even if it’s just for a short while every day.
I have some more personal goals, but these are the things that I’m focusing on and determined to achieve this year.

I feel like I’m doing the things that my younger self would have never had the confidence to do or even thought that she could have done, such as radio interviews and speaking at a conference. I’m really excited to see what 2020 will have in store and what opportunities come my way.
Next week marks my 5th blogging anniversary, I can’t quite believe that I’ve been blogging for 5 years! I’m incredibly proud of my blog, I want to continue working hard on it and make it the best it can be.
I want to create content that you enjoy reading and that you find helpful.
I’d like to think that these goals are quite realistic and that I will hopefully achieve them.
I can’t wait to see what else 2020 has to offer.
I’d love to know what goals you’ve set yourself for the year ahead, have you got any exciting plans? Let me know in the comments.
Happy New Year to you all, here’s to a happy, healthy and successful 2020.

Hi Holly. I’ve just seen one of your tweets and came to look at your blog. What do you think about hospital radio? I helped on a Friday-night request-show for 5 years at my local hospital and they were lovely people. They didn’t have the software at the time for me to cue up records and do my own show, but it got me visiting the patients and talking on-air. Radio-stations would probably look at you more favourably too if you had something like that on your CV.
Hi, that’s a great suggestion, thank you so much. It’s something that I’d definitely consider and something that I’ve actually been thinking about so it’s really good to know that this is something you did for a few years
