Today’s post is a bit of a shorter post, it’s more of an announcement than anything else.
If you follow me on social media, then you will have probably seen that I have been wanting to start a Youtube channel for a while now, but didn’t really know where to start. As I have no useful vision, video editing is something that can be a bit tricky for me as a screen-reader user. However, after a lot of research and testing, I have finally worked out how to do basic video editing. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nothing fancy, but it’s a start. I am completely reliant on VoiceOver on my Mac and luckily, iMovie is accessible for people with a visual impairment. I’m still getting to grips with the software, but I’m really pleased that I have managed to work out basic editing skills.
So I have decided to take the plunge and start my own Youtube channel. I’ll obviously never be the next famous YouTuber but that’s not the aim of my channel. I want to use my platform to share my experiences of living with a visual impairment, help others going through sight loss and tackle the common misconceptions surrounding disability and visual impairment. These are all things that I try to do on my blog, so I’m hoping that my Youtube channel will reflect that.
I’m passionate about raising awareness and educating others so I’m hoping that I’ll be able to do that even more by creating video content.
Filming, editing and uploading videos is something that I have never done before, it’s completely out of my comfort zone but like I said in my previous post, it’s important to push yourself and try new experiences and that’s exactly what I’m doing. I have no idea how it will go (or if anyone will even watch my videos), but at least I can say that I have tried it and if all else fails, it will have been a learning curve for me.
For those of you that are regular readers of my blog, don’t panic, my blog will still be my main priority, creating Youtube videos is just a little extra. I have a passion for writing so my blog is here to stay!
I really do hope that you’ll join me on my new venture, I love creating content for you all so I am excited to be doing this in another form.
It would mean the world to me if you subscribed to my Youtube channel, it means that you will be notified whenever I upload a new video. As my videos and blog posts are separate, make sure you’re subscribed to my blog as well so that you never miss a post, you can do this on my homepage by entering your email address in the subscribe box near the bottom of the page.
Make sure you head over to my channel as my first video is up…
If you have any suggestions of videos that you would like me to upload then please do send me your suggestions as I’d love to hear from you! You can leave them in the comments on this post, in the comments of any of my videos or by contacting me.
I hope you are as excited as I am about this new venture, I do hope that you will follow me on this new chapter of Life of a Blind Girl.
