Kristine’s questions

1.      What do you love about blogging?

I absolutely love blogging, it’s one of my favourite things to do. There are so many things that I love about blogging so I’m going to discuss a few of them.

One of the main aspects that I love about blogging is the fact that it allows me to share my story with the world and help others. My blog is predominantly disability based, and it means the world when people message me to tell me that my posts have helped them in some way, it makes all the hard work worth it!

One other thing that I love about blogging is because of some of the amazing opportunities that I’ve had, I’ve had the chance to collaborate and work with some special charities and organisations and for that I am extremely grateful. I love working with organisations, so this really means a lot to me, it’s such an achievement because it’s something that I never even thought about when I started blogging!

By far one of my favourite things about blogging is the blogging community, I’ve become part of such a special community and got to know some other bloggers, some of which I have become very good friends with. I am so grateful for the people that I have met through blogging.

2.      What do you hate about blogging?

There aren’t many things that I hate about blogging, but one of the things that I do hate is how disabled bloggers like myself are overlooked. We may not be your average lifestyle or beauty blogger, but we are here trying to raise awareness of disability and tackle the common misconceptions and trying to help others. I hate how we are hardly ever recognised when it comes to things such as blogging awards or huge opportunities.

The other thing that I hate about blogging is the competition, I know that it’s not about numbers or statistics, but it can often be hard to not compare yourself to other bloggers that started around the same time as you and are doing so much better.

3.      Has your blog always been the same niche, style, or platform? What has changed from the beginning?

I always intended to talk about my disability when I started blogging, it’s one of the reasons why I started my blog in the first place, so it has always been the same niche.

In terms of style and platform, I started out on WordPress with a free theme which wasn’t very customisable, but in 2017 I decided to go self-hosted and I’m so glad that I did! Going self-hosted allowed me to have more freedom with my blog, get my own domain and have my blog the way I wanted it.

My writing style has changed over the last few years, I’ve grown up and matured and I guess my writing style reflects that. I also try to incorporate images in each of my posts as well.

4.      If you could take a trip to anywhere, where would you go?

I’d 100% go back to New York! That place is an absolute dream and I miss it so much.

5.      What is the goal of your blog?

The goal of my blog is to raise awareness of visual impairment/disability, tackle the stigmas and common misconceptions of these and help others.

6.      IF you could be a superhero, what power would you have and why?

I’d love to be able to fly, that would be so cool! Being able to fly would mean that I could go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted without worrying about transport and accessibility.

7.      What do you do to relax?

I usually watch tv/YouTube, listen to music, or read a good book.

8.      Who is your favourite blogger?

I honestly can’t pick one, I have so many! The people that I have nominated are all my favourites so make sure you check out their blogs! My other faves include Hannah Gale,Vix Meldrew,Sarah,Charleigh and Grace. I know that’s more than 1 but I couldn’t decide!

9.      Blogging is hard work, what motivates you to keep writing?

It most definitely is hard work, but I love blogging, so I won’t stop. The thing that motivates me the most is the fact that I want to raise awareness by tackling the common misconceptions surrounding visual impairment and disability and help others, those are the things that motivate me to continue. If I can make a small difference somehow, or change someone’s wrongly perceived ideas then it makes the hard work worthwhile.

10. What advice would you give to other bloggers?

I’ve discussed this in other posts but one of the main pieces of advice that I can give to other bloggers is find your niche and stick to it, and produce content that you are interested in and have a passion for, passion shines through when you are reading someone’s blog post!

The second piece of advice that I would give to other bloggers is to connect and support other bloggers. Whether this is making friends, commenting on other people’s posts, or following them on social media, make sure you support other bloggers. It’s so important to support each other and lift each other up!

My third piece of advice that I would give to other bloggers is to make your blog accessible to everyone. Whether this is adding alt text to your images, adding photo descriptions to pictures you post on social media or making sure that your blog is easy to read and in a clear font, making your blog accessible to everyone is so important. AS a screen-reader user, I come across so many blogs and websites that are not accessible.
